Algernon Blackwood

Born in 1869 in Shooter's Hill, in what is now Southeast London, he studied at Wellington College. He worked as a farmer in Canada, a hotel manager, and a journalist in New York. He returned to England shortly before turning forty and began writing horror stories. He published ten collections of short stories and wrote fourteen novels and a few plays. His most notable works include "The Centaur" (1912), "Julius Le Vallon" (1916), and "The Bright Messenger" (1921). He passed away in 1951.
