P. D. James

P. D. James (Phyllis Dorothy James) was born in Oxford in 1920. From 1949 to 1968, she worked for the National Health Service, and from 1968 to 1979, she was employed in the criminal section of the British Police. She wrote numerous detective novels and received awards in the UK, the USA, Italy, and Sweden. She was considered the most significant British crime writer of modern times. In 2000, on her eightieth birthday, she was made Baroness of Holland Park in recognition of her contribution to British literature. She passed away on November 27, 2014, at the age of 94.
