Kostis Papagiorgis
Son of a public school teacher, Kostis Papagiorgis was born in 1947 in Neochori Ypatis and lived in Paralia of Kymi ('51-'60), in Halandri, in Thessaloniki ('66-'67), and in Paris ('69-'75). His attempts to study law in Thessaloniki and philosophy in Paris did not continue; nevertheless, his almost pathological dedication to reading led him incidentally to book trading. Subsequently, upon returning to Athens, he engaged in translating philosophical works purely for livelihood reasons and, later in life, in writing largely confessional essays. He wrote about intoxication, jealousy, misanthropy, the dead, resentment, friendship, and war. He passed away on March 21, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer.
