
Giorgos Mpalanos
Giorgos Balanos was born in Athens in 1944. After completing his secondary education, he developed an interest in physics but did not continue his studies, despite being offered a Fulbright Foundation scholarship. He studied electronics for a year at the Sivitanidios School but left to join the military. He later enrolled at Panteion University but did not complete his studies there either. A graduate of the University of Michigan, he taught English for several years before pursuing a career in photography and later in writing and translation. He served as the representative in Greece for the international research organization Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO). His translation work earned him the Karell Award in 1984, an annual award given to a translator from around the world by the World Science Fiction Association. He participated in numerous television programs, both as a guest and with his own show. He was the author of over 25 research and science fiction books and translated nearly a hundred books on research, metaphysics, science fiction, mystery, and more. In the later years of his life, he avoided public or social appearances as much as possible. He passed away on February 18, 2020, at the age of 76.
