Harper Lee

Harper Lee was born on April 28, 1926, in Monroeville, Alabama. At the age of 22, she moved to New York City to work for an airline. Soon after, she decided to dedicate herself to writing. "To Kill a Mockingbird" was written over the course of about a decade, and upon its publication in 1960, it earned her a Pulitzer Prize (1961) and international recognition. It was adapted into a film in 1962, starring Gregory Peck, and won three Oscars. It wasn't until 2015 that her second book, "Go Set a Watchman," was released, which she had written before "Mockingbird." She passed away on February 19, 2016, at the age of 90.
