Harriet Beecher - Stowe

The American author Harriet Beecher Stowe was born in 1811 in Litchfield, Connecticut. She participated in the fight against slavery in the United States. In 1850, the law that required citizens to report runaway slaves inspired her to write "Uncle Tom's Cabin." This work sparked a storm of reactions and had a direct impact on the Civil War. It was translated into thirty-five languages.
