
CHristos A. CHomenidis
Christos Chomenidis was born in 1966 in Athens. He studied law at the University of Athens and took courses in law in the Soviet Union and Communication in England. Initially, he worked at a law firm in Athens. He made his debut as a writer in 1988 with a short story published in "Playboy" magazine. Since then, he has collaborated with numerous newspapers and magazines, most recently with "Ta Nea" and "Capital" magazine. In 1993, he published his first novel, "The Wise Child" (Estia, 21st edition: May 2001; Patakis Publishers, 2008), which was translated into French in 1997 ("Le Jeune sage", Seuil) and later into Italian and Hebrew. This was followed by the novel "Rising to the Occasion" (Estia, 1995, French: "La hauteur des circonstances", Seuil, 1998), the short story collection "I Won't Do You the Favor" (Estia, 1997), the novel "The Voice" (Estia, 1998, 10th edition: 1999; Patakis Publishers, 2011, French: "La voix volee", Seuil, 2003), as well as the books "Second Life" (short stories, Estia, 2000), "Pluperfect" (novel, Estia, 2003), "The House and the Cell" (novel, Patakis, 2005; 8th edition, 2014), "Words Like Wings" (novel, Patakis, 2009), "At the Second Coming, Let Them Mark Us Absent" (short stories, Patakis, 2010), "The World to His Measure" (novel, Patakis, 2014), "Victory" (novel, Patakis, 2014, State Novel Award, Novel Award from "Anagnostis" magazine, and Public Novel Award), "Young White Deer" (novel, Patakis, 2016). His books have been translated into French, English, Spanish, Czech, Lithuanian, Turkish, and Hebrew. He translated Patrick Hamilton's play "The Rope" into Greek (first performance: Chora Theater, 1998) and wrote the screenplay for the film "Black Milk" (dir. Nikos Triantafyllidis, 1999) and for the ET1 television series "The Voice" (based on his own novel, dir. Giorgos Oikonomou, 18 episodes, 2001). For a short period, he was involved in politics as a member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Left party (DIMAR). Between 2002-2010, he worked as a radio producer, hosting a daily show on the airwaves. Today, he still resides in Kypseli and continues to hope for the best.
