Florence Scovel Shinn

Florence Scovel Shinn was born on September 24, 1871, in New Jersey and passed away in October 1940. In her youth, she distinguished herself as an actress and book illustrator, and in her middle age, she began her spiritual, metaphysical, and writing work, becoming part of the New Thought philosophical movement that developed in the United States in the 19th century. Her spiritual teaching work became widely known in 1925 with the publication of her first book, "The Game of Life and How to Play It." This was followed by "Your Word is Your Wand" in 1928 and "The Secret Door to Success" in 1940. In "The Game of Life," Florence expressed her philosophy with the phrase: Invisible forces are always working for the person who 'pulls the strings,' even if they are unaware of it. Thanks to the vibrational power of words, anything one utters begins to attract it. In this book, she takes some well-known Bible passages and explains them through a metaphysical lens, revealing a very different aspect of them, which relates to the inner power of the individual. Her philosophy focuses on the power of positive thinking and verbally expressed positive affirmations. Through many examples, Florence shows us how anyone who wishes can take this power into their own hands—since it is rightfully theirs—and change their life, fulfilling their dreams!
