
Makis Tsitas
Makis Tsitas was born in 1971 in Giannitsa. He holds a degree in journalism and has collaborated with radio stations in Thessaloniki. Since 1994, he has been residing permanently in Athens and working in the publishing industry. He served as the editor-in-chief of the literary magazine Periplous (1994-2005) and was the co-publisher and director of the book magazine Index (2006-2011). Since 2012, he has been directing the book and culture news site Diastixo.gr.
His literary works have been included in anthologies, published in magazines and newspapers, and translated into many languages. His works have been directed by Roula Pateraki (Municipal Theatre of Piraeus), Ersi Vasilikioti ("Theatre of Times", Athens), Sofia Karagianni (Vault Theatre, Athens), Taru Makela (Christine and Goran Schildt Foundation, Finland), and Alexandru Mazgareanu (Nottara Theatre, Romania).
His lyrics have been set to music by Giorgos Stavrianos, Takis Soukas, and Tatiana Zografou. He has published 23 books for children and 3 for adults. For his novel "God Is My Witness," he received the 2014 European Union Prize for Literature and was honored by the Municipality of Athens, the Municipality of Pella, the Municipality of Edessa, the Public Central Library of Edessa, and the Region of Central Macedonia. "God Is My Witness" is available in 11 European languages. He is a member of the Hellenic Authors’ Society.
