Eleni Sarantiti

Born in Neapolis, Laconia, she has been living in Athens since the age of seventeen. She studied library science at the National Library of Greece and English at a college in London. At nineteen, her first book, a collection of short stories, was published and taught at the University of Munich, while her writings began appearing in Athenian newspapers. Her young adult book "Once the Hunter" received the UNESCO Commendation in the global youth literature competition on the theme of tolerance and understanding, was awarded the Greek Children's Book Circle Prize, and also received the State Youth Book Award from the Ministry of Culture. Out of her ten books in total, three have been adapted into series for state television, and several of her short stories have been translated into German, Swedish, and Danish. She has collaborated with radio and television on book programs, and her short stories, articles, travel pieces, and author portraits are occasionally published in Athens newspapers and magazines. Her historical novel "The Cape of Saint Angelos" was nominated for the State Novel Award in 2000. She also collaborates with the online book magazines diastixo.gr and Bookbar.gr. Excerpts from her works are included in the Anthology for 5th and 6th Grade, in the Modern Greek of Technical Vocational Schools, and in the Texts of Modern Greek Literature for 1st Grade Gymnasium. For her contribution to children's literature, the Greek Children's Book Circle honored her with the Grand Prize in 2011.
