THanasis Skroumpelos

Thanasis Skourbelos was born in Kolonos in 1944. He studied Fine Arts (engraving and iconography) in Athens and film at the London Film School, supported by an Amnesty International scholarship as he was persecuted by the dictatorship. He has worked as a journalist for Athenian newspapers and magazines and has written several scripts for film and television, including "Eastern Wind," "Local Newspaper," "Farewell Homeland, Comrade," "Ariadne Lives in Leros," among others. His published books include "Workers' Tale," "Migrants," "Snakes in Kolonos," and "Saint George of the Greeks." He has written and directed feature films such as "Johnny Kell, Madam," "Hawaii," "Aliosha," the collective film "New Parthenon," and the episodic "The Yard with the Garbage." He is also involved in writing and translating plays, including "Hawaii," "Secret Voices," "Yerma," and "Laughter in the Dark," among others. He has been elected several times as a member of the Board of Directors of the Greek Directors' Guild and is a founding member of the Greek Screenwriters Association.
