Aris Maragopoulos

Aris Maragkopoulos was born in Athens in 1948. He studied history, archaeology, and art history at the University of Athens and the University of Paris I (Sorbonne) in Paris. He has worked as an editor, copywriter, book critic, translator, and publisher. He has published more than twenty books of fiction and criticism, as well as an equal number of translations (from French and English). He writes book and idea critiques for the press and literary magazines. He is a founding member of "Topos" publishing, where he heads the literature department. He has extensively studied the work of James Joyce, for which he has published three studies; the most well-known, "Ulysses: A Reading Guide," has seen multiple editions (1995, 2001, 2010). In April 2018, his critical/translation reading of Joyce's posthumous work "Giacomo Joyce" was published. His latest novels form the political/historical "Trilogy of Comradely Life": "The Mania with Spring" (Topos 2009), "The Slap Tree" (Topos 2012), and "Paul and Laura, Painting from Life" (Topos 2016).
