Louis Aragon

Louis Aragon was born in 1897 in Neuilly-sur-Seine and passed away in 1982 in Paris. He began studying medicine but abandoned it to devote himself to literature. In 1917, he met Breton and Soupault. In 1919, they published the magazine "Littérature." In 1920, they joined the Dada movement, from which they withdrew in 1922. A year later, they played a leading role in the creation of the Surrealist movement. The main works of Aragon's Surrealist period include the poetry collection "Le Mouvement Perpétuel" (1925), the novel "Le Paysan de Paris" (1926), and the essay collection "Traité du Style" (1928). In 1926, he joined the French Communist Party, where he remained until his death. In 1928, he met Elsa Triolet. From 1930 to 1932, he traveled extensively in the Soviet Union. In 1932, he broke with the Surrealists. During the German occupation, he actively participated in the French Resistance and was a key figure in the clandestine publication of the magazine "Les Lettres Françaises," which he also directed post-war until 1972. In 1957, he was awarded the Lenin Prize. Among his diverse and extensive works, notable mentions include the poetry collections "Le Crève-Cœur" (1941), "Les Yeux d'Elsa" (1942), "Le Fou d'Elsa" (1963); the novels "La Semaine Sainte" (1958), "Blanche ou l'Oubli" (1967); and the essay collection "J'abats mon Jeu" (1963). Greek translations include "M' Anichta Chartia" (Titos Patrikios, 1965), "Sklavia kai Megaleio" (Kosmas Politis, 1986), "O Parizianos Chorikos" (Stefanos Koumanoudis, 1986), among others.
