Benedict Richard O' Gorman Anderson

Benedict Richard O'Gorman Anderson was born in China in 1936 to an Irish father and an English mother. He is the brother of historian Perry Anderson. He studied social anthropology and Eastern languages and was a professor at Cornell University (USA). He authored works such as "Java in a Time of Revolution," "Literature and Politics in Siam in the American Era," and "Language and Power: Exploring Political Cultures in Indonesia." With his work "Imagined Communities," written after the armed conflicts in Indochina between 1978-1979, he established himself as one of the most significant contemporary theorists of nationalism. He passed away in his sleep on December 13, 2015.
