Niki Loizidi studied economics and political science at the University of Athens. In 1973, she moved to Paris, where she pursued an extensive range of postgraduate studies in the History and Sociology of Art. Her studies and dissertation, which she defended in 1981 at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes, focused primarily on surrealism. She taught Art History at the School of Philosophy at the University of Ioannina (1982-85) and, since 1985, has been teaching at the School of Fine Arts at the University of Thessaloniki. Since 1992, she has been participating in the postgraduate Art History program at the School of Philosophy at the University of Crete. She is a member of AICA (International Association of Art Critics) and an associate of CEAS (Center for Sociological Studies on Current Affairs) at the Sorbonne, a member of the Greek and International Society of Comparative Literature, and a member of the Association of Scientists for the Promotion of Sociological Research at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes. Her published books include: "Surrealism in Greek Art - The Case of Nikos Engonopoulos" (1984), "Giorgio de Chirico and the Surrealist Revolution" (1987), "The Myth of the Minotaur in the Interwar Avant-Garde" (1988), "The Peak and Crisis of Avant-Garde Ideology" (1992), and "Therapy Diary" (Novella) (1997).
