Elena CHouzouri

Elena Houzouri has published six poetry collections, essays, and studies on figures ("The Thessaloniki of Giorgos Ioannou") and topics in Greek literature ("The Army in Modern Greek Literature"), a comprehensive edition of her critiques on Greek poets, and a collected edition of her poems (2011). She made her debut in prose in December 2004 with the novel "Dark Vardar" (Kedros), which was shortlisted for the State Literature Prize and nominated for the BALKANIKA 2006 award, representing Greece. In the fall of 2009, her novel "Homeland of Cotton" (Kedros) was released, nominated for the Readers' Award and included in the shortlist for the literary awards of the magazine "Diavazo." "Dark Vardar" has been translated into Serbian, Bulgarian, and Turkish. Her poems, short stories, and critiques have been published in collective editions and literary magazines. As a literary critic, she collaborated with "Kathimerini" (1995-2000) and the "Library" of "Eleftherotypia" (2000-2009). She occasionally collaborates with the "Readings" section of "Avgi." She organized and directed the literary series "Writings of Innocence" (1998) and "A Letter for You" (2001) at Ellinika Grammata publications. She served as a foreign literature publishing consultant at Patakis publications (1992-1996) and Greek literature at Livani publications (1996-1999). For many years, she worked as a journalist in the culture and book sector in the Athenian daily and periodical press. For eighteen years, she prepared and presented the book show "My Friend Mr. Gutenberg" on the First Program (NET 105.8) of ERA. She collaborated on cultural topics for the TV magazine "Art and Culture" on public television (1987-1990). She also collaborated in presenting books on the TV shows "Bibliorama," "Spirit of Contradiction," and "It's a Matter of Taste." She is a member of the Journalists' Union of the Athens Daily Newspapers (ESIEA) and the Society of Authors, where she served as Vice President (2009-2011) and General Secretary (2011-2013). She is a member of the editorial board of the electronic magazine for books and culture "O Anagnostis" and collaborates as a literary critic with the newspaper "To Ethnos."
