Albert Camus

Albert Camus (1913-1960), a French novelist, playwright, and essayist, was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1957. He was born in Mondovi, Algeria, and died in Sens, France, in a car accident along with his publisher, Michel Gallimard. Founder of the "Theatre du Travail" (1935), where he worked as a director, adapter, actor, and theorist, Camus owes his reputation almost equally to his novels "The Stranger" and "The Plague," as well as to his plays "Caligula," "The Just Assassins," and his philosophical essays "The Myth of Sisyphus" and "The Rebel."
