
Iro Nikopoulou
Hero Nikopoulou was born in 1958 in Nea Smyrni, where she currently resides and works. She studied painting and scenography at the Athens School of Fine Arts. Nikopoulou has held nine solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions both in Greece and abroad. Reviews of her work have been published in daily newspapers and art magazines. She is featured in the Visual Dictionary of Greek Artists from the 16th to the 20th Century by Melissa Publications (1999). Her works are included in public and private collections, such as the Collection of the Hellenic Parliament, the Vorres Collection, the Nika Collection, the OSE Museum, the United Nations, The Netherlands Red Cross, Amsterdam, Holland, among others.
Since 1986, she has also been involved in literature, having published five poetry collections, one novel, and four short story collections. Since 2010, she has co-directed the digital review for short stories "Planodion-Bonsai Stories" and, alongside Yiannis Patilis, curated the "Bonsai Stories" anthologies for the years '14, '15, and '16 (Gavriilidis).
Nikopoulou has been invited to participate in numerous international poetry festivals. Her poems, short stories, and articles have been published in magazines, daily newspapers, and online platforms and have been translated into English, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Finnish, and Croatian. In Spanish, a poetry anthology titled "Acepciones de la Mirada" (2019, Padilla Libros Editores y Libreros, El arbol de la luz, Sevilla, translated by Jose Antonio Moreno Jurado) is available.
In 2019, the literary magazine Sisyphus dedicated its 17th issue to her poetry and prose work. She served as a member and treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Authors’ Society for two terms, from 2015-16 and 2017-2018. Additionally, she is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece and the Circle of Poets.
