Sofia Zarampouka
Sophia Zarabouka writes and illustrates her own books. She was born in Athens and studied painting and theater in Greece, as well as graphic arts and illustration in America. Her first children's book was written during the dictatorship (1967-74) and explains to children what that word means. Since then, her work has focused on children's books. She is best known for her adaptations of ancient works: Aristophanes for children, Oresteia, Odyssey, Iliad, and Mythology. These books are used in primary schools, while the "Stories and Knowledge" series is used in kindergartens and early primary school grades. Her illustrations have been exhibited internationally and are part of museum collections. In 1982, she was honored with the Ouranis Award for children's literature by the Academy of Athens for her body of work. She was also awarded the EBGE Award (Greek Graphic Design & Illustration Awards) for her overall contribution. Some of her books have been awarded both in Greece and abroad.
