
Mitsos Kasolas
Mitsos Kasolas was born in 1936. He studied film and theater. He worked as a photographer and cameraman (1961-1967) in the film department of the Ministry of Education, from which he was dismissed by the Junta. For three years, he was an assistant director at Finos Film for movies by Dinos Dimopoulos. He is involved in writing books and scripts and has been a member of script advisory committees at the Greek Film Center. Concurrently, he worked as a journalist—as a member of the Journalists' Union of the Athens Daily Newspapers—from 1972 to 1992, for many central and regional newspapers: "Ta Nea," "Avgi," "Oikonomiki Poreia," among others. Since 1964, he has published five poetry collections, a chronicle, an essay on Nikos Kavvadias, and eight novels. In 1974, he received the First State Award for his chronicle "The Other America," and in 1982, he was honored with the First State Award for his novel "The Prince," which was adapted into a twenty-six-episode television series on ET-1, directed by Tasos Psarras. His novel "Angelina" was adapted into a series on NET, also by Tasos Psarras, under the title "The Treasure of Angelina." His poems were set to music by Yiannis Markopoulos and were included in Jules Dassin's film "The Rehearsal." Excerpts from his book "The Other America" are included in secondary education textbooks. A series of his works are taught at Harvard University (Department of Foreign Languages). A selection of his poetry was translated and published in America under the title "Harvest" in 1971.
