Kostas Mylonas

The composer and author Kostas Milonas was born and raised in Nikaia, Piraeus. His musical studies were limited, making him largely self-taught. As a composer, he has engaged with nearly all genres of music, including music for theater and film (six films, some of which have won awards at Greek and international festivals), chamber music, orchestral works, and song cycles. His song cycles, such as "Of Love and Solitude" (1966 - 1969) set to the poetry of M. Lountemis, M. Eleftheriou, A. Angelaki, K. Mitropoulou, G. Samba, F. Anavaloglou, and "Song of Songs" translated and adapted by Lefteris Papadopoulos, have been described by leading figures in Greek music as groundbreaking for their time. He has also composed numerous individual songs released by labels such as LYRA and MINOS, featured on LPs and 45s. Over the past 18 years, 12 CDs featuring various works of his have been released in Greece and abroad, performed by internationally renowned soloists like pianist Natalia Michailidou and violinist Segiu Nastasa. His musical activities also include countless television and radio broadcasts, featuring portraits of his work and other programs in which he participated as either a composer or an author. He has conducted numerous concerts in Athens and across Greece, some of which were covered by state television. Additionally, he conducted the orchestra at the Thessaloniki Song Festival. In 2009, he collaborated with the Athens State Orchestra as a pianist and writer for their events celebrating "200 Years of Greek Lyric Song," conducting concerts. He has given countless interviews across all media outlets. As an author, he has written nine books, eight published by "Kedros" and one by "Nefeli." His four-volume "History of Greek Song" and works such as "Music and Cinema," "Music in Greek Cinema" are pioneering contributions and are taught at universities. His studies and articles have been published in newspapers like Kathimerini, Eleftherotypia, Ethnos, and magazines like Diavazo, Polytimo, among others. He has delivered numerous lectures on music, cinema, poetry, and prose at universities and other cultural institutions.
