Silvina Ocampo

Silvina Ocampo
Argentinian author and poet (1903-1993), partner of writer Adolfo Bioy Casares. She made her literary debut in 1937 with the short story collection "Viaje olvidado." This was followed by poetry collections such as "Enumeracion de la patria," "Espacios metricos," "Los sonetos del jardin," "Los nombres" (second prize in the national poetry competition, 1953), and "Lo amargo por dulce" (first prize in the national poetry competition, 1962), as well as collections of short stories, children's books, and more. Together with Adolfo Bioy Casares, she co-authored the novel "Whoever Loves, Hates" ("Los que aman, odian") in 1946, and with Juan Rodolfo Wilcock, the play "The Traitors" ("Los Traidores") in 1956. Along with Borges and Casares, Ocampo co-edited the famous "Antology of Fantastic Literature" (Antologia de la literatura fantastica) in 1940, as well as an anthology of her country's poetry the following year. After her death, her correspondence with Casares was published, offering an impressive "fresco" of the intellectual Buenos Aires ("Traveling," 1996).
