Georgios G. Gounaris

Georgios Gounaris was born in 1942 in Agiasos, Lesvos. He holds a degree and a doctorate from the School of Philosophy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he teaches Byzantine archaeology as an associate professor. Since 1964, he has participated in the significant excavation of the Octagon in Philippi. He has published works on early Christian art and post-Byzantine painting.
