Despoina Tomazani

Born in Chios, with roots from Ayvalik in Asia Minor and Kotyora (Ordou), she studied theater in Athens, film and theater at Stockholm University, and dance and mime at the Stockholm Ballet Academy. She has acted in Swedish, Greek, and French cinema, as well as in Greek and French theater. At the 1st Mediterranean Film Festival, she was awarded the Best Actress award for her role in the film "L'ombre de la terre" by Tajeb Louichi. In theater, she has performed, among others, as "Persephone" directed by Jacques Lacarrière and "Phaedra" by Yiannis Ritsos, which she directed herself. In France, she starred in the play "La fiancée de l'eau" by Tahar Ben Jelloun. She translated and performed "Hiroshima Mon Amour" by Marguerite Duras, which she also directed. She has written poetry, theater, short stories, and novels. Her works have been translated into French, German, Turkish, English, and Italian. She contributed to "Kiriakatiki Eleftherotypia" in the column "Pinakoti - Pinakoti" and to "Makedonia" in the magazine "Epiloges."
