Polyxeni Adam - Veleni

Born, raised, educated, and permanently residing in Thessaloniki, she works as an archaeologist at the 16th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of Thessaloniki. She has conducted excavations in Filiria Kilkis, Ierissos and Mende in Chalkidiki, Pella, Arabissos, various sites in the city of Thessaloniki, Vrasna, Arethousa, Apollonia, and Asprovalta in the Thessaloniki region. Her major works include the excavation research in the Hellenistic city of Petres in Florina and the development and promotion of the Ancient Agora of Thessaloniki. She has participated with presentations in international, national, and local conferences and has published 56 studies and articles in Greek and foreign journals on ceramics, metallurgy, sculpture, numismatics, and epigraphy of the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the "Macedonian Altars" of the imperial era in Thessaloniki and Veria. She has been involved in organizing exhibitions, educational programs, and conferences. Since 1987, she has been providing secretarial support for the annual meeting on archaeological work in Macedonia and Thrace and has been editing the publication of its proceedings, along with other archaeological publications. She has delivered approximately 25 lectures related to her field for the general public, as well as educational talks at the Open University of the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the School of Tourist Guides of Thessaloniki. In recognition of her contribution to science, she was awarded in 1998 by the Societes des Encouragement au Progres of the French Academy. She has written scripts for archaeological documentaries for ET3, and since March 1998, she has hosted a weekly archaeology program on 9.58FM. For two years, she contributed articles to the feuilletons of the newspapers "Thessaloniki" and "Aggelioforos tis Kyriakis." In recent years, she has been involved in the theory and practice of theater.
