Nikolaj Vasilievic Gogol

Nikolai Gogol (1809-1852). He was born in the village of Sorochyntsi, in Poltava, central Ukraine. His mother was a descendant of Polish landowners, and his father was a Cossack who had written several poems and plays in Ukrainian and Russian. Gogol is considered the father of Russian realism, and his work, with its lyricism, humor, and insight, significantly influenced the development of world literature. In 1828, he moved to the capital, St. Petersburg, where he faced a series of disappointments. His first book, "Hans Küchelgarten" (1829), received negative reviews, and his attempt to become an actor failed. He gained recognition with the book "The Government Inspector" (1836), and his establishment came with "Dead Souls" (1842), which placed him at the pinnacle of Russian literature. Other works include: "The Overcoat," "Diary of a Madman," "Taras Bulba," "The Nose," "The Marriage," among others.
