
Giorgos Veis
Giorgos Veis was born in Athens in 1955. His poems have been translated into seven European languages and Chinese. His first book, "Forms and Other Poems," was published in 1974, followed by eleven more poetry books, up to "Silk in the Garden" (Ypsilon, 2010). Since 1976, he has been involved in literary criticism. He is a member of the Society of Authors and serves in the Diplomatic Corps of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has held positions such as Consul in New York, Consul General in Dortmund, Melbourne, Hong Kong, and Macau, Embassy Counselor in Beijing and Seoul, and Chargé d'Affaires in Cameroon, with concurrent accreditation in Chad, São Tomé and Príncipe, Gabon, the Central African Republic, and Equatorial Guinea. He served as Ambassador to Sudan, with concurrent accreditation in Somalia. In 2010, he was appointed Ambassador to Indonesia, with concurrent accreditation in Malaysia, the Sultanate of Brunei, and East Timor. He was awarded the State Testimony Prize in 2000 for his book "Asia, Asia," and the State Chronicle-Testimony Prize in 2010 for his book "From Tokyo to Khartoum." His poetry collection "Details of Worlds" (Ypsilon) received the Lambros Porphyra Award from the Academy of Athens in 2007. In 2012, he was awarded the Grand Commander of the Order of the Phoenix for his services in the diplomatic corps. In 2014, he received the Poetry Prize from the Petros Haris Foundation of the Academy of Athens for his body of work. In July 2015, he was promoted by absolute election from the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary A' to the rank of Ambassador and appointed Permanent Representative of Greece to UNESCO. He was honored with the State Literary Award for Testimony - Biography - Chronicle - Travel Literature in 2016 for his book titled "Everywhere: Testimonies, Transformations."
