Kira Sinou

Kira Sinou
Kira Sinou (1923-2007) was born in Rostov, Russia, to a Greek father and a Russian mother. She moved to Greece at the age of nine without knowing Greek. However, she learned it so quickly that her short stories were regularly published in "Diaplasis ton Paidon," from which she also received her first literary award. She worked at the Public Power Corporation of Greece (DEI), where her role involved overseeing interns, which led her to children's literature. She wrote over 25 books on topics such as paleontology, prehistory, history, and contemporary life. A certified tour guide and a graduate of the German School (Abitur), she was also proficient in English, French, and Russian and was heavily involved in translation, having translated over 100 books for both adults and children. She received numerous awards in Greece and abroad and was nominated for the Andersen Award in 1996. She was a member of various organizations for children's literature, including the Women's Literary Society and the Circle of the Greek Children's Book. She passed away in Athens on September 27, 2007, at the age of 84, due to pulmonary edema. Selected Works: - "In the Land of Mammoths": ill.
