Michail D. Stasinopoulos

Michail D. Stasinopoulos (1903-2002). Michail D. Stasinopoulos was born in Messini. He studied at the Law School of the University of Athens, graduating in 1924, and earned his doctorate from the same school in 1934. He served as a rapporteur, associate judge, counselor, vice president, and president (1966) of the Council of State, while simultaneously pursuing an academic career. He began as a lecturer in Administrative Law at the University of Athens and subsequently held positions as an adjunct, full professor, and Rector (1951-1957) at Panteion University. He was also an honorary doctorate recipient from the universities of Bordeaux and Paris. In 1968, he was elected a member of the Academy of Athens in the Class of Moral and Political Sciences, and a year later, he was removed from his position as president of the Council of State due to his denunciation of the dictatorial regime of the colonels as illegal. Following the restoration of democracy, he was elected the first Member of Parliament for the State and became President of the Republic for six months after the referendum. Stasinopoulos's scholarly work contributed to the modernization of Greek jurisprudence in the field of administrative law. He was a founding member of the Group of Twelve and the publisher of the scientific journal "Review of Public and Administrative Law." His literary debut was in the pages of the magazine "The Children's Formation," with publications of verses and prose, initially under the pseudonym Messinian Coast and later under his real name. He officially appeared in 1920 with publications of poems and translations of French poets in the magazine "Mousa," and published poems, prose, essays, and travel writings in various Athenian publications, mainly in "Nea Estia." In 1949, he released his first poetry collection titled "Poems." This was followed by the collection "Poems - Two Seasons" (1979), as well as the novel "The Trial" and the children's prose work "Our Company," travel writings, and essays. In the field of translation, he worked on authors such as Maeterlinck, Moréas, Henri Bataille, Daudet, Gide, and others.
