Jakob Ludwig Grimm

Jakob Ludwig Karl Grimm, one of the Brothers Grimm, was born in Hanau in 1785 and died in Berlin in 1863. Although he studied law, he was deeply involved in philology. His career as a professor and librarian, first in Kassel, then in Göttingen, and finally in Berlin, where he was invited to join the Academy of Sciences, greatly supported his pursuits. He was more renowned than his brother. As a keen observer and meticulous researcher, he scientifically studied mythology. Through his collection of orally transmitted tales, he gathered old stories under the title "Children's and Household Tales," which brought him fame. Alongside the "German Grammar," the "History of the German Language," and the grand "German Dictionary," which was only partially published, his works remain invaluable for the study of German philology. In all these endeavors, he had the valuable collaboration of his brother, who followed him in all his research and to whom he owed the publication of his fairy tales.
