Desmond Morris

Desmond Morris was born in Wiltshire in 1928 and studied zoology at the University of Birmingham. In 1951, he went to Oxford and, as a member of Niko Tinbergen's animal behavior research group, began writing his doctoral thesis on the reproductive behavior of fish. He remained in Oxford until 1965, engaging in further studies on animal behavior. He then moved to London, where he took on the role of director of the newly established television and film department at the zoo. After spending three years making films and preparing television programs focused on animal behavior, in 1959, he assumed the position of curator of mammals at the Zoological Society. He has published more than fifty scientific papers, as well as numerous books. Among them is "The Naked Ape" (1967), which sold over ten million copies worldwide and was translated into many languages, along with others such as "The Mammals: A Guide to the Living Species" (1965), "The Human Zoo" (1969), "Intimate Behavior" (1971), "Manwatching" (1977), "Gestures" (1979), and more.
