Giorgis CHristofilakis

Giorgis Christofilakis (born in 1939 in Ellinitsa, Arcadia) is closely associated with the history of Greek theater. Even as a student, he directed and acted in the Gymnasium Theater of Megalopolis and during his military service in 1963-64, he staged Melas' "Papaflessas" on a two-month tour along the borders with a troupe of soldiers. Since then, theater has become his lifelong passion: from Manos Katrakis' "Greek Folk Theater" to the troupe "Masks" (and later the theater venue of the same name), Christofilakis has consistently written plays and essays, directed, and acted. Throughout these years, he has contributed to the theater, also serving as the General Secretary of the Society of Greek Playwrights. Additionally, he is the Chairman of the Evaluation Committee for the annual state playwriting competition of the Ministry of Culture and the General Secretary of the Collective Management Organization THESPIS.
