Rois Papagelou

Rois Papangelou is an architect-urban planner, author, poet, and translator. He was born in 1941. He studied architecture at the National Technical University of Athens (1963), urban planning at the Polytechnic of Central London, and management at Hawkwood College and the University of Birmingham. He worked in offices and private and public organizations in Greece (1964-67), as a scientific associate in the UK and the USA (1967-89), and as the director of urban development and projects in North London (1980-89). Since 1989, he has been based in Greece, and in 1998 he became a professor of translation at the Ionian University. He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Royal Town Planning Institute of Britain, and the Society of Greek Writers. He participated in the 9th European Poetry Festival in Leuven (1987). He has been awarded the "Spiritual Creation" prize by the Hellenic Society of Christian Letters. He has published 47 books. His published works include 33 poetry books, 3 books of plays, 9 books of metrical translations of foreign poetry (including works by Neruda, Eliot, Pound, Whitman, Lorca, Baudelaire, Rimbaud, and others), and 2 dictionaries. His poems have been translated and frequently anthologized in various languages.
