Panagiotis CH. Noutsos

Panagiotis Noutsos was born in Elliniko, Ioannina, in 1948. He studied at the Universities of Ioannina and West Berlin (Freie and Technische Universität). He earned his doctorate (1979) and habilitation (1982) in philosophy at the University of Ioannina. He has been a professor (since 1988) of social and political philosophy at the same university, where he has been teaching since 1980. During a year-long academic leave (1987/1988), he conducted research, gave lectures, and taught at the Universities I, IV, and X of Paris. During a similar leave (1994/1995), he conducted research at RMIT University (Melbourne), Pomona College (Los Angeles), and New York University. In the spring of 1999 and the summer of 2012, he was a research fellow at Princeton University. His research interests include social and political philosophy, philosophy of social sciences, modern Greek philosophy, modern and contemporary European philosophy, philosophy of history, the social field of literature, and the academic institution. He has published a series of standalone books in Greek and five other European languages. His articles and studies have been translated into English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Hungarian, and Turkish. From 1991 to 1994 (before the emergence of "professional rectors"), he served as vice-rector of the University of Ioannina. He contributed to the organization and direction of the Postgraduate Program: "Greek Philosophy - Philosophy of Sciences" at the University of Ioannina.
