Agori Grekou

Born in Athens in 1961, the author spent their early childhood and completed their primary education in Athens and Boonton, N.J. (USA). They attended the 14th Primary School, School Street Elementary School, John Hill School, and Boonton High School, and graduated from the Lyceum of Palaio Psychiko in 1978. From 1978 to 1988, they pursued university studies in Paris, Crete, and Athens, focusing on French Philology, General and Comparative Literature, and Modern Greek Philology. They obtained a Licence and Maitrise de Lettres Modernes from the Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris III, under the supervision of Prof. Jany Berretti, with a thesis on "Translating Proust into Greek: An Attempt by P. Zannas for 'Un Amour de Swann'." They also earned a Certificat d’Etudes Universitaires Supérieures, D.E.A. in General and Comparative Literature from the same university, guided by Professors Claude Pichois, Michel Cadot, and Daniel-Henri Pageaux. In 1999, they completed their doctoral dissertation at the University of Athens, Department of Philology, under Prof. P.D. Mastrodimitris, on "Pure Poetry in Greece: From Solomos to Seferis, 1833-1933." They received scholarships and participated in research programs, including a Special Postgraduate Scholarship at the University of Crete (Catalog of Modern Greek Literature Works), the Center for Ancient Drama (Theatrical Periodicals Bibliography), and the Institute of Technology Research (Archive of Modern Greek Metrics) from 1985 to 1995. Their research interests include European poetry (18th-20th centuries), comparative literature, literary criticism, literary periodicals, and bibliographic and publishing issues. Professionally, they have been involved in teaching languages (French, English, Greek) in schools and privately, as well as in journalism with Channel 1 and ERT. They reside in Germany and Greece and are proficient in Greek, French, English, and German, with basic knowledge of Spanish and Italian.
