Efi Sapouna - Sakellaraki

Efi Sapouna-Sakellaraki was born in Piraeus and grew up in Athens. She is a graduate of the School of Philosophy at the University of Athens and the Department of Tourism Professions at the Industrial School. She pursued postgraduate studies in London and Heidelberg and earned her doctorate from the School of Philosophy in Athens. She has worked at the Acropolis, Olympia, Nafplio, Heraklion, and Corfu Museums, as well as on excavations in these areas. She served in the excavations of the American School of Classical Studies at the Ancient Agora of Athens as a secretary, in the Archives Department of the Ministry of Culture, and in the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities. Her significant contributions include participation in the excavations of Zakros, Archanes, and Zominthos, which she co-directed with her archaeologist husband, Yiannis Sakellarakis. They were awarded by the Academy of Athens for the excavation of Archanes. As the curator of Antiquities of Euboea, she conducted significant excavations throughout the island, in Skyros, and along the Boeotian coasts. Establishing museums, re-exhibiting old ones, and providing updates with guides and educational programs were among her main concerns. She has participated in numerous conferences and traveled with her husband to many countries for scientific lectures. Her writing includes over 150 titles of books and scientific articles. She is a member of the Archaeological Society at Athens, the Hellenic Numismatic Society, the Institute of Underwater Archaeological Research, and the Archaeological Institutes of Berlin and America. Since 2010, she has been the president of the Psycha Foundation, which funds Greek excavations.
