Gérard-Anaclet-Vincent Encausse, as his full real name was, was born on July 13, 1865, in Corunna, Spain, to a French father and a Spanish mother. He spent his childhood on the Hill of Montmartre, in the great city of Paris, where his parents moved in 1869. He passed away in this "City of Light" that he loved so much, on October 25, 1916. A graduate in Medicine, he briefly worked as an external doctor in hospitals. However, he soon abandoned his medical career to dedicate himself to... the hermetic sciences. The complete list of works he published includes 160 titles, not counting the foreign translations of his major works. He also founded the "Order of Martinists."
