
Elias Canetti
The German-speaking author Elias Canetti was born in Ruse, Bulgaria, in 1905. He completed high school in Frankfurt and studied Natural Sciences in Vienna, where he earned his doctorate in 1938. "Auto-da-Fé" is his only novel, which earned him the Nobel Prize in 1981. His works include "Crowds and Power" (1960), as well as essays, plays, travel impressions, and his masterful autobiography in four volumes. He passed away in Zurich in 1994, at the age of 89.
