Leyteris Xanthopoulos

Lefteris Xanthopoulos (1945-2020) was born in Athens on February 18, 1945. He studied law at the University of Athens, but did not take his final exams, and later studied film in London. He published several poetry collections, including "Antipsycha" (1972, 2nd ed. Andromeda 1982, 3rd ed. Metronomos 2017), "Adventures of a Wandering Dream Bodyguard" (Nefeli, 1981), "The Red Room" (Paraskinio, 1988), "Lift Your Head, Father" (Delfini, 1995), "The Force of Water and Waters" (Stigmi, 1998), "Why Women Don't Love the Rain" (Kedros, 2002), "The Seventh Rain" (Gavriilidis, 2010), "My Enemies and Friends" (Gavriilidis, 2014), "Something's Happening" (Gavriilidis, 2015), "Man of Zero Shades" (Gavriilidis, 2018), the narrative "Angel of the First Days" (Livanis, 1999, 2nd ed. Gavriilidis, 2016), as well as the short story collection "Cats Elsewhere" (Gavriilidis, 2011). He directed feature films such as "Good Homeland Comrade (Beloiannisz)", a dramatized documentary, 1986; "The Fugitive", fiction, 1991, the TV films "The Wedding", 1994; "Without Alibi", 1993, and documentaries like "Greek Community of Heidelberg", 1978, "George from Sotirianika", 1979, "In Tourkovounia", 1982, "At Kolonos", 1983, "Routes (Pavlos Zannas)", 1988, "The Great Procession (Alexis Panselinos)", 1988, "Traditional Typography (Emilios Kalliakatsos)", 1989, "Who is the Mad Hare (Miltos Sachtouris)", 1992, "Dark Conspirator (Michalis Katsaros)", 1998, "Heir of Birds (Miltos Sachtouris)", 2004, "The Garden with Countless Windows (Nikos Engonopoulos)", 2005, "Blessed Hands (Christos Kapralos)", 2006, "House by the Sea (H. Ch. Papadimitrakopoulos)", 2007, "The Music of the Centaurs (Composer Alekos Xenos)", 2009, "The Bitter Story of Andrei Gorenko", 2010, "Maria Kehayioglou - Maria Skoula", 2011, "Take the Gifts... Kiki Dimoula and Titos Patrikios", 2011, "The Collectors", 2011, among others. He contributed with his writings to collective publications, such as the books "The Four Seasons of Nikos Koundouros" (with Lakis Papastathis and Dimitris Fyssas, Gavriilidis, 2014) and "Camus: Happiness and the Absurd, Inseparable Children of the Same Land" (with Nikos Bakounakis and Fotini Tsalikoglou, Kastaniotis, 2014). His literary reviews were published in "Ta Nea", "Entefktirio", and the online magazine www.oanagnostis.gr. He passed away in Athens on June 19, 2020, during surgery for a cardiac condition.
