Ingvild H. Rishoi (born 1978) grew up in Oslo. She became known for her concise yet powerful storytelling, her focus on the wonders of everyday life, and her fragile characters—many of them children—living on the margins of society.Her first book was the short story collection La sta (2007), which introduced her as a promising new voice in Norwegian literature. Her second short story collection, Historien om Fru Berg, was published in 2011 and was nominated for the Brage Prize.In 2014, she published the highly successful short story collection Vinternoveller, which won the Critics’ Prize (adult fiction) and the Brage Prize (best short story collection). The book was also nominated for the Brage Prize in the adult fiction category—the first time a book was nominated in two categories.Stargate is her first novel. It was immediately hailed as a contemporary classic and established her as one of Scandinavia’s most respected literary voices. In May 2024, the Swedish Academy awarded her the prestigious Dobloug Prize for her contribution to Norwegian literature.
