Michalis K. Makrakis

The author, Professor Mich. Makrakis, holds a degree in Theology from the University of Athens and pursued further studies at the Russian Institute of Theology of St. Sergius (Paris) and the Department of Philosophy at the University of California (Berkeley), submitting specialized theses on L. Tolstoy and G. Santayana, respectively. Upon returning to Greece, he served as the Director of Publications for the Apostolic Ministry of the Church of Greece. Concurrently, he taught philosophy at the Teacher Training College of Secondary Education and the Higher School of Pedagogical and Technological Education. He earned his Doctorate in Theology from the University of Athens in 1979, with a dissertation on Tolstoy, and became a lecturer in the Philosophy of Religion at the same university, with a work on Dostoevsky, for which he received a first prize in literature. In addition to Philosophy of Religion, he taught Psychology of Religion and Philosophy in Literature at the University of Athens as an assistant professor, associate professor, and full professor from 1985. In 1992, he became the Director of the Department of Religious Studies. He is a member of the Hellenic Philosophical Society, the Society of Greek Writers, the Society of Christian Letters, and the Society of Friends of the People.
