Sophie Elmhirst

Sophie Elmhirst is an award-winning journalist who writes regularly for The Guardian Long Read and The Economist. Her work has also appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, and Harper’s Bazaar. She has been honored with the British Press Award for Feature Writer of the Year, as well as the Foreign Press Award. She lives in London. This is her first book, which was awarded the Nero Gold Prize, named one of the best books of 2025 by NPR, Vogue, Time Magazine, and The New Yorker, and was one of Barack Obama’s favorite books of 2025.
