
Ioannis E. Pyrgiotakis
Born in Ierapetra, Crete, Giannis Pyrgiotakis belongs to the first post-war generation, nurtured by the experiences of this tumultuous and multifaceted deprived period. He is a Professor of Sociology of Education at the University of Crete and has served as Vice-Rector of the same university for two terms. His extensive research and writing include ten books and around fifty independent studies and monographs. Invited by the Minister of Education of the German state of Hesse, he taught as a Visiting Professor at the University of Frankfurt and is a regular scientific collaborator and member of the central research team of the German Institute for International Educational Research. He has been invited to and has given numerous lectures at various universities in Germany, England, and Switzerland. He has participated in many international conferences, is a member of several international scientific societies, and has served as President of the Pedagogical Society of Greece.
