Eygenios Trivizas

Eugene Trivizas is a lawyer, a graduate of Law, Political, and Economic Sciences from the University of Athens, holder of a Master of Laws degree (University College), and a Doctor of Law from the University of London (London School of Economics and Political Science). He is also a Senior Research Fellow at the University of London. He teaches Criminology and Comparative Criminal Law at the University of Reading and directs the Department of Criminal Justice Studies at the same university. He has also taught at Bramshill Police College, Central London Polytechnic, and the London School of Economics. From 1993 to 1998, he was a visiting professor of Criminology at Panteion University of Athens. His criminological and legal articles have been published in journals such as "Lancet," "British Journal of Criminology," and "Annales internationales de Criminologie," among others. Eugene Trivizas has been involved in literature since his childhood. He has written over 100 children's books, one book for adults ("The Fireman in Love"), and more than 20 plays, as well as librettos for operas. His works have been awarded by the "Union of Greek Writers," the "Circle of the Greek Children's Book," and the "Women's Literary Society." In England and America, his books have received awards such as the Parents Choice Amazing Accomplishment Award, the Sheffield Children's Book Award Commendation, the Judson, Massachusetts Children's Choice Award, and the Arizona Library Association Young Readers Award. His play "The Dream of the Scarecrow" was performed in 1992 at the British Museum Theatre in England as part of the European Arts Festival. In the same year, his play "A Thousand and One Cats," translated by Z. Rudrinski, won the First Prize in the global playwriting competition organized by the Polish Centre for Youth Art. In 1993, his book "The Three Little Wolves" reached the second position on the American children's bestseller list (Picture Books). Eugene Trivizas's books have been broadcast by the BBC, included in the reading materials of Greek and American schools, and translated into English, German, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Japanese, and many other languages. In America, the University of Minnesota's library in Minneapolis (E.M. Andersen Library) decided to collect all of Eugene Trivizas's literary books, studies on his work, manuscripts, and other materials into a special research collection. The exhibition of the first acquisitions of the collection took place at the University of Minnesota in May 2000, where Eugene Trivizas spoke on "The Stereotypes of Good and Evil in Children's Literature," with a response from the renowned children's literature theorist, Professor Jack Zipes.
