Bernard - Marie Koltès
Bernard-Marie Koltès, born into a Catholic middle-class family, was born in Metz, France, on April 9, 1948. He was educated by the Jesuits, whose thought and rhetoric, characteristic elements of this education, would influence the dialogues in the plays he would write. His first true theatrical emotion was Maria Casares in Seneca's Medea. He traveled extensively: New York, Latin America, Russia. His plays include: "Sallinger" and "The Night Just Before the Forests" (1977), "Black Battles with Dogs" (1979), "Quay West" and "In the Solitude of Cotton Fields" (1985), "Tabataba" (1986), "Return to the Desert" and "Roberto Zucco" (1988), and his novels: "The Runaway Horse Far into the City" (1970), and the unfinished "Prologue." He died of AIDS in 1989 in Paris, having seen all his works come to life on stage.
