THodoris A. Gonis

Theodoros Gonis hails from Alonistaina in Arcadia. He was born in Gatzia, Nafplio. A graduate of the Pello Katseli Drama School, he also studied economics. He worked in theater as an actor until 1996, participating in almost all the productions of the "Epoch" Theater Organization by V. Papavasileiou. Since 1996, he has primarily focused on directing. He has directed works by Misitzis, Chourmouzis, Vizyinos, Byzantios, Tertsetis, Horn, Xenopoulos, Palamas, Kehagias, Fais, Grigoriadis, Anagnostakis, Gonatas, Papadiamantis, Lorca, Shakespeare, Aeschylus, and others for the National Theatre of Northern Greece, the Municipal and Regional Theatres of Agrinio, Patras, Northern Aegean, Serres, Komotini, and the Athens and Epidaurus Festival. He has written and directed musical theater performances such as "Gustav Klaus" in collaboration with N. Xydakis ("Patras 2006 - European Capital of Culture"), "I Have a Person" in collaboration with K. Leivadas (Zygos, Athens 2006), and "Karolou Dill and Tsimiski" in collaboration with G. Andreou (Athens Concert Hall, 2007). From 2000 to 2007, he served as the artistic director of the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Agrinio and from 2008 to 2011 of the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Serres. In 1987, he began his collaboration as a lyricist with Nikos Xydakis (Cairo - Nafplio - Khartoum, Close to Glory for a Moment, Tenedos, Venetian Woman, The Honey of the Cliffs, The Roar of the Myth, Cape Tainaron, A Song for Nikos Gatsos, etc.). He has also collaborated with Giorgos Andreou, Christos Nikolopoulos, Orfeas Peridis, Pantelis Thalassinos, Kostas Leivadas, Tasos Grous, Panagiotis Kalantzopoulos, Petros Tambouris, among others. Since April 2009, he has been the artistic director of the Philippi-Thasos Festival.
