Marian Keyes

Marian Keyes, one of Ireland's most popular authors today, grew up in Dublin, studied law, and lived for many years in London working at a tedious accounting firm before making her first attempt at writing. Her debut novel "Watermelon" was published in Ireland in 1995 and was such a success that Keyes was rightfully deemed a publishing phenomenon. This was followed by "Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married," "Rachel's Holiday," "Last Chance Saloon," and "Sushi for Beginners," all of which became bestsellers, with the latter even reaching the number one spot on the Sunday Times bestseller list. In less than a decade, her novels have been published in nineteen languages and have sold over six million copies in thirty-five countries. Keyes' unprecedented appeal to a wide audience worldwide is due to her unique blend of comedy and drama, which is her trademark—"the best comedy has its roots in the dark side," as she herself says—and the irresistible realism with which she crafts her everyday, utterly human characters.
