Giannis Voulgaris

Giannis Voulgaris was born in Athens in 1951. He is an emeritus professor in the Department of Political Science and History at Panteion University. Holding a Ph.D. in Political Science, he has been a researcher at the Institute of Political Sociology of the National Centre for Social Research. Among his publications are: "The Difficult Modernization: Political Strategies and the Welfare State in Contemporary Italy," Exantas (1990); "The Next Day: After the Fall of Real Socialism" (editor), Paratiritis (1992); "Liberalism, Conservatism, Welfare State 1973-1990," Themelio (1994); "Capitalism and Democracy: The Return of the Old Problem," Hellenic Review of Political Science (1997); "L' Italia del Centro-sinistra," Carocci (1998); "Greece of the Metapolitefsi 1974-1990: Stable Democracy Marked by Post-War History," Themelio (2001); "The Challenge of Hegemony," Polis (2003); "Greece from the Metapolitefsi to Globalization," Polis (2008); "On the Paths of Antonio Gramsci: Politics and Culture from the Nation-State to Globalization" (editor), Themelio (2010); "The Fatal Five Years: The Politics of Inertia 2004-2009," Polis, 2011. He has also published essays and articles focusing on issues of democracy and capitalism, the state and civil society, globalization, and contemporary political analysis. Additionally, he has directed the "Enthimata" section of "Kiriakatiki Avgi" and collaborated with "Kathimerini."
