Paul Klee

He was born in 1879 in Munchenbuchsee (near Bern), Switzerland. Initially, he showed interest and talent in music. He studied in Munich and had teachers such as Erwin Knirr and Franz Stuck. He traveled and stayed for a while in Italy, where he came into contact with the artistic wealth of the Renaissance. Later, he visited Paris twice (1905, 1912). He was influenced by Blake, Goya, and Corot. He participated in the work of the magazine "Der Blaue Reiter" ("The Blue Rider"). From 1921 to 1931, he taught and painted at the Bauhaus. His written works include: "Paedagogisches Skizzenbuch" ("Pedagogical Sketchbook"), 1925, "Über die moderne Kunst" ("On Modern Art"), 1945, and "Das bildnerische Denken" (a voluminous volume of his lectures given at the Bauhaus and Weimar). He passed away in 1940.
