Alexandros S. Kariotoglou

Alexandros Kariotoglou was born in Limni, Evia, in 1948 and hails from Samos. He graduated from Pythagorean Gymnasium of Samos and studied theology at the Theological School of the University of Athens and in Münster, Germany. He specialized in the History of Religions and earned his doctorate from the Theological School of the University of Athens. He taught in both private and public education, spent three years at the St. Andrew's Theological School in Sydney, Australia, and eight years at the Department of Education at the University of Thessaly. He served as an advisor to the Archbishop of Athens, Mr. Ieronymos, and retired from his position as a School Counselor in Piraeus. He has authored 10 books of scientific and educational content, contributed to a collective volume of the Theology Department for the Open University, and published a significant number of articles. His book "Orthodoxy and Islam" was awarded the First Prize "Abdi Ipekci." A representative of the younger generation of theologians, he is considered to be striving to combine Orthodox theology with a modern and empirical perspective on life. He has been married to Angeliki Tzouvali-Kariotoglou since 1973 and is the father of four children.
